The Keswick Tournament '06

The 1st Keswick paintball tournament was a great success. Held at, and in aid of, Keswick Rugby Club on Saturday 1st April 2006. Five teams competed against each other and the exceptionally muddy conditions for the honor of becoming Keswick's Paintball Champions.

Organiser Fraser Dooley said: 'The turnout was fewer than expected, probably due to the weather. Those that did compete had a great time, as well as the spectators who all had a great view of the games and were really cheering the teams on. It was a fantastic event for everyone even the non-combatants! We will certainly be running it again in the future'

The five teams were drawn against each other for the first round of two games per team. The four top scoring teams went through the semi's leaving team 'Bang Bang Your Dead' with the dubious honour of being the first team to be knocked out of a Keswick Tournament. This young team played well and took the hits valiantly but the large age difference took it's toll.

'Keswick Killers' played and lost, three nil to 'Dan is Gay', despite Malcolm Middleton's team's efforts, which were both vocal and heroic. Good tactics, communication and much effort by the whole team, captained by Dan Greenwell, meant they kept the pressure on denying the 'Killers' any points.

Match two of the semis saw ' The White Zombies ' beating ' Kurva ' , again three nil, although there was no effort spared by the losers at any point and all three games were very close. 'Kurva' boys had difficulty keeping their feet and, once knocked out the two girls fought on but were out manovered by the fast moving surviving player from the 'Zombies'.

The action packed final saw both the 'White Zombies' and 'Dan is Gay' with a point each after two of the most grueling games ever witnessed by the marshals. Neither team would would give an inch so pure guts and stamina from all players gave each team a win. `It was all to play for in the last game and both teams gave it everything they had, not to mention the spectators who also gave it there all in support of the players efforts. Onc the 'Zombies ' medic was knocked out, the rest of the team dropped one by one, leaving 'Dan is gay ' as the victors.
